EXHIBITION TEXT AND POSTERThe canary was used in coal mines to warn miners of dangerous coal fumes. It died shortly before the air quality became dangerous for the miners, and served as a warning signal. The media uses clickbait to arouse reactions in people. Manufactured fear and anger are important means of generating clicks. Attention economy is a term often used in this context. In digital spheres, your attention becomes a limited resource with economic value for capital. Your habits as a consumer of different media are transformed into valuable data, which is then sold to facilitate your interests. The abundance of images and the flow of media obscure real dangers around us with misleading headlines in warning colors and AI-slop. It is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate the digital landscape and algorithms tailor your content to what you spend the most time on, creating echo chambers and alienation. War and climate crises appear side by side with the latest in celebrity gossip. “The 3 Habits That Are Giving You Constipation” is hidden behind a paywall while you are served a muck soup of “This Outrageous Truth About Green Gummy Bears Will Destroy Your World!”

"The video-work in the first room is a project where I invited people to do something in front of a camera, with ten seconds of their action being slotted into a longer video. The recording of the work took place over four days. The first minute of the video is a conversation between me and the first participant, giving a sneak-peek into the filming process. All the participants’ names are written below whilst their clip is showing to highlight their contribution to the project."- Exhibition text from Framework For Participation
